1990’s Internet Struggle Was Real!

Hey, 80’s babies! Remember the good old days of the 1990s when we had to dial up to get on the internet and wait for that familiar “you’ve got mail” from AOL? Yeah, those were the days.

So, how slow was dial-up internet, you ask? Let me tell you, it was slower than my grandma on a Sunday drive. The max speed was only 56 kilobits per second (kbps), which is like a turtle racing against a cheetah compared to today’s internet speeds. I mean, the average internet speed in the US today is over 100 megabits per second (Mbps), which is like lightning speed compared to the slow crawl of dial-up.

Back then, we had to be patient because it took a few minutes for a web page to load. And if we wanted to download a song or a video, we had to wait for hours or even days! Can you imagine? And don’t even get me started on how often we lost our connection or how few devices we could connect at the same time.

Sure, it was groundbreaking technology at the time, but let’s face it, compared to modern internet speeds, dial-up was like watching paint dry.
