If you’re wondering if driving with earbuds is illegal, it’s going to depend on which state you live in. Here in Louisiana, it is a finable offense to drive with headphones on.
This is a negative review of Superior Honda of New Orleans and their marketing practices which seem to encourage distracted driving which could lead to fines for Honda drivers, and possibly personal injury or even death.
Earlier today, I saw a video advertisement by Superior Honda of New Orleans, Louisiana promoting their dangerous practice of driving with earbuds in. If you don’t know, driving with earbuds in (referenced by the state of Louisiana as “headphones”) is not only dangerous to the driver and all persons and property around him or her, but it’s also an offense carrying a fine of $25 + court costs. The legislation notes that this violation isn’t on it’s own a reason for police to pull you over, but why would you want to give them an excuse to pull you over in hopes that you’re ignorant of your local laws?
I really find this type of marketing to be irresponsible and deplorable. Sure, they want to make their vehicles look hip and cool, but that should not be accomplished by putting the public at such risk and grave danger.
“Driving with headsets on (R.S. 32:295.2) – Prohibits the wearing of headphones by any operator of a motor vehicle. “Headphones” are defined as a headset, headphone, or listening device other than a hearing aid , which covers or is inserted in both ears. Law enforcement and certain motorcycle helmets are exempted from enforcement. The penalty is a $25 fine plus court costs.”
