#PutInTeddy – Drew Brees Almost Loses The Game For The Saints vs Panthers. Saints Win 34-31.

In a divisional matchup between the New Orleans Saints and the Carolina Panthers, Drew Brees displayed what remains of his talents and his ever-weakening arm strength.
⚜️🏬 Saints Fans:
Until the fourth quarter, it looked like this game, played Sunday, November 24th, 2019, was going to be another convincing win for the Saints. Unfortunately, fatigue, pride, and insecurity caused Drew Brees to start making those mistakes that are becoming all too familiar. Drew Brees can no longer throw the deep ball without deep passes from Drew Brees being underthrown. Start Teddy Bridgewater.

In the fourth quarter, we saw why Drew Brees is an aging game manager with incredible precision and accuracy that immediately declines past 25 yards. As has been the story for the past few years, Brees tried to show the fans, his team and himself that he could still hit a home run on a deep ball. And again, we saw a streaking Ted Ginn Jr. have to watch a lame-duck fall well short of where most NFL quarterbacks can place the ball. Soon after that fail, Brees threw an interception. We’ve seen this before and now it was up to the defense to bail out Drew Brees and the Saints. #PutInTeddy

Unfortunately for Saints fans, the 7 point lead quickly turned into a 31-31 tie. And with over 9 minutes left in the game, the Saints and Drew Brees could surely put together a long, scoring drive that would eat a lot of that time remaining. Nope. The Saints turned the ball over on downs. With approximately 7 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter, we were about to watch the desperate Panthers march down the field on a frustrated (with Drew Brees) Saints Defense. Keep Drew Brees on the Bench.

The Panthers put together a nice drive which was aided by some Saints penalties and which milked the clock. After a controversial pass interference penalty on the Saints, the Panthers were put in prime position to score but they couldn’t get it done. A short field goal was missed by the Panthers. Drew Brees would be marched back onto the field. I wish it was Teddy Bridgewater who was going to quarterback the Saints in this position. With 2:00 remaining, could Brees march the Saints down the field and buy himself another week of holding off the dogs who are ready to call out the obvious about Drew Brees not being the quarterback we remember from 2010?

Should the Saints win, this would be Drew Brees’ 50th game-winning drive. That’s impressive. It’s also a reminder of just how long Drew Brees has been around. On a third down and six yards to go, Drew Brees perfectly underthrows a pass to Michael Thomas. That lack of arm strength paid off. Immediately following that first down, Brees had a receiver streaking down the middle of the field and he didn’t throw it to him. I would assume it was because he knew he couldn’t throw a pass that far.

With 0:03 on the clock, Drew Brees has successfully put the Saints in position to win. After one of those lame, “ice the kicker” timeouts by the Panthers, Will Lutz booted in a 33-yard field goal. The Saints win. Brees has 50 comeback victories. I guess we can call off the hounds on Drew Brees for another week.
