Troubleshooting WordPress App 403 Error: Fixing XML-RPC Block

#WordPress #XMLRPC #403Error

In this video, I troubleshoot a 403 error while setting up the WordPress app on my phone. The issue was linked to the XML-RPC file, which is crucial for remote blogging. I start by checking the xmlrpc.php file permissions, ensuring they are correctly set at 644. Since my hosting provider doesn’t block these files, I suspect a plugin is causing the problem.

With around 40 plugins installed, I use an XML-RPC checker tool at xmlrpcchecker.com to test access. I deactivate all plugins and reactivate them in groups of three to pinpoint the issue. Eventually, I discover that the IP Geolock plugin is blocking XML-RPC access. This plugin was originally installed to protect my site from attacks, but its settings prevent me from disabling the block.

To resolve the issue, I deactivate the IP Geolock plugin entirely, which restores access to the XML-RPC file and allows me to use the WordPress app without restrictions. While the plugin has been effective in preventing downtime, I plan to revisit its settings later.

If you’ve encountered a similar issue, let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear any tips or insights on managing the IP Geolock plugin or other security measures for XML-RPC access.
