All living things on this earth will die at some point. Humans, plants, k-9, and birds to name a few. If anyone who has been responsible for the disposal of the remains of a person or animal thought choosing cremation would be cheap, think again.
do it yourself cremation
What if you want to cremate the remains yourself? Can this be done? How can you do your own cremation? Serial killers do it all the time. I’m pretty sure it’s illegal, at least in the United States, to dispose of the remains of a human being yourself. But, what about an animal? If you weren’t responsible for the death of the animal, I suppose you can get rid of the body any way you see fit. People flush fish down the toilet. People bury cats and dogs. People even throw their family pets in the trash. What about a bird? What can you do with a dead bird, a pigeon to be specific. Pigeons are referred to around here, in New Orleans, as rats with wings. These nasty flying rodents are everywhere around here. Pigeons carry disease, spread disease, and crap all over your car.

A few days ago a dead pigeon was discovered in front of the house. I wasn’t about to get close to this thing and neither was anyone else who lived here so it just stayed there and started to rot. Last night, a friend came over and didn’t know about the dead pigeon. The spot where the pigeon died at is used as extra parking in fron the house. The friend ran over the pigeon. Now there was a disgusting, smelly, dead pigeon, in pieces, in from the house. It was time to do something about it. It was starting to smell and looked like it was decomposing and starting to stick to the pavement.

In an act of what we thought was an exercise of being humane, and also to make this nasty thing disappear, my buddy decided it was best to cremate the pigeon. If you’ve ever thought it was a good idea to burn up a dead pest, watch the video below to see how it’s done. (Hindsight says we should have just scooped this thing up with a shovel or something and put it in a plastic bag.)
