Feel like kicking cancer in the face? If you do, you should start drinking some white tea and let the antioxidants and flavonoids do that for you. There’s not doubt about it, white tea is getting popular. I don’t know if it’s because it’s supposed to taste better than other tea varieties, if it is healthier for you than other tea varieties, or if it just plain sounds cooler. Whatever the reason for the rise in the popularity of white tea, it’s evident Lipton is trying to cash in by offering several beverage options based around white tea.
Lipton Diet Raspberry White Tea
The drink I bought is called Diet Raspberry Lipton White Tea. It’s a 20oz bottle with a “healthy and herbal” looking label on it. Just by looking at the label, this is what I would guess was in it: white tea, raspberry extract, and some type of artificial sweetner (since it’s diet). So, what’s really in it:
WATER, CITRIC ACID, WHITE AND GREEN TEA, NATURAL FLAVORS, SODIUM HEXAMETAPHOSPHATE (TO PROTECT FLAVOR), PHOSPHORIC ACID, POTASSIUM SORBATE AND POTASSIUM BENZOATE (PRESERVE FRESHNESS), ASCORBIC ACID (TO PROTECT FLAVOR), ASPARTAME, CITRUS PECTIN, ACESULFAME POTASSIUM, CALCIUM DISODIUM EDTA (TO PROTECT FLAVOR).

Okay, so there are a few more ingredients than I thought. No big deal. It’s made by Lipton which is a unilever brand. Unilever makes Axe body sprays and deodorants so it’s not like they’re going to make some super organic, minimal ingredient iced tea. What did surprise me in the list of ingredients is the second ingredient, green tea. Why don’t they they call this drink “Lipton’s Diet Raspberry White & Green Tea”?

Does Lipton Diet Raspberry White Tea taste good?
In my opinion, yes! It tastes very good.

What’s in white tea that’s supposed to make it healthy and good for you?
I just did a little internet research on white tea and this is what I found. Also, since this iced tea drink contains green tea, I’ll throw some green tea info in here as well.
White tea and green tea are derived from the Camellia sinensis plant. Both white and green tea go through little processing (or they shouldn’t, at least). However, unlike most other varieties (including traditional black tea and oolong tea), the leaves of white tea are harvested before they are fully opened. Indeed, the name “white tea” is derived from the fine white hair that covers the uppermost tender buds of the plant. For this reason, white tea is sometimes referred to as the “Rolls Royce” of the tea family. Tea leaves destined to be sold as white tea undergo even less processing than green tea leaves. Instead of air-drying, the unwithered leaves are merely steamed.
Need another reason to drink white tea? A 2004 study at Pace University concluded that white tea can help your body’s immune system fight off viruses and dangerous infection-causing bacteria. The same study concluded that fluoride-rich white tea helps prevent the growth of dental plaque, the chief cause of tooth decay.
White Tea Vs. Green Tea - Which tastes better?
If better means sweeter and less “grassy” tasting, white tea wins which means white tea tastes better. While green tea has a noticeable grass-like flavor, and often requires sweeteners to be acceptable to the American consumer’s palate, white tea offers a natural light, sweet flavor.

Which is healthier, white tea or green tea?
Studies have indicated that white tea offers even more cancer-fighting antioxidant agents than green tea.
